Blogging on the Go: WordMobi, the unofficial WordPress for Symbian app

Unlike the iPhone and BlackBerry platforms, Nokia’s Symbian does not have an official Autommatic WordPress app. However there is a very popular app called WordMobi which supports multiple WordPress.com and self-hosted installations and can be dubbed the unofficial WordPress for Symbian App.

Wordmobi is S60 client for wordpress written in Python for Nokia mobile phones, helping you to manage your blog while saving time and bandwidth. Common blog operations, like posting, approve comment, post delete, comments visualization, for instance, are possible using wordmobi.

WordMobi is really packed with features, some of which are absent from the official apps.

Word Mobi 0.9.2 UI

Posts: Wordmobi allows you to create (supports both text and images), edit or delete posts .

The newest version also eliminates the need to use HTML in creating your blog posts, which must surely have been one of the most anticipated features in that release. Photos can be added directly from the camera when creating your posts and the app supportsĀ  sizing of these photos through percentages.

Comments: Wordmobi allows you to manage your blog comments (create, edit or delete comments) and moderate (approve, deny and reply to comments) from its interface.

Categories & Tags: Categories and tags and also very importantly for some power users, the more tag, can all be managed from WordMobi. Support for the more tag is helpful for users because some themes may break if the more tag is not used in certain views.

Offline Support: WordMobi also has good offline support both for writing posts and also has persistence, which means if you use multiple accounts, the app will resume in the blog you used in your last session when it restarts.

Twitter: Twitter integration is another great feature included with WordMobi which is not available in either of the official BlackBerry or iPhone apps. Granted there are several good twitter apps for both platforms but integrated tweeting can never be bad. In fact it would be useful on the iPhone which does not allow most apps to run in the background or to switch easily between apps.

Blog Statistics: WordMobi also provides users with statistics about their blogs, another really great feature not yet implemented in the official apps.Features like this which are available in official WordPress apps are what make WordMobi so popular with its fan base.

WordMobi uses Python for Symbian and therefore means you will have to install Python for Symbian on your Nokia device. Download both WordMobi and Python for Symbian and also access the installation guide from the project’s Google Code page.

WordMobi is a great WordPress app for Symbian which demonstrates the strength of the Nokia developer community even if it has lost popularity to Apple.
