Permission Issues: Facebook for BlackBerry
Posted on 21. Jun, 2010 by Nana Kwabena Owusu in Berry Crazy
Facebook for BlackBerry, the official app for connecting your device with the world’s biggest social network is experiencing issues. Most of the affected users started reporting issues with the application today, although it may have started late last night. BlackBerry has acknowledged the issue, as indicated by this twitter message from the official BlackBerry account.
According to reports on the BlackBerry Support Forums, there are permission issues with trying to do certain social actions especially ‘Like’ actions and sometimes commenting on friend status updates. There are also discussions on the Facebook for BlackBerry application page on Facebook and also negative reviews on the Facebook application page on the BlackBerry AppWorld website which also report similar issues.
I have fired up my app but it seems it may not be everybody experiencing the issue because I was able to like a friend’s post without any permission errors. I am beginning to wonder if it has to do with specific user settings, user privacy settings maybe. Since not all users are affected and with the recent privacy settings changes on facebook, I am strongly inclined to feel it has to with that. I have not changed any privacy settings lately (yes I know, I should manage my privacy better….) and that may be why I am unaffected.
We’ll keep an eye on this and see if it escalates or was just a minor issue for a few users.
