Future Me: February 20, 2019 (Final Installation)

Dear Diary,

So there was the gunshot, and I was totally wondering who was dead this time. My ear was ringing and I couldn’t see properly from all the excitement. I heard a thud and I immediately knew who had fallen to betrayal.

Willemina was the one standing, “Foolish men” she said in a very icy voice. With that she placed the gun she just used in the hands of the dead Ekow, pulled out another gun and ordered me to get up and walk in front of her; all this while my phone was still on.

“So you killed your husband for this?” I asked. She couldn’t or didn’t want to answer, but in a way I felt it struck a chord. “Saying it yourself isn’t as hurting as someone telling you that you did it, and for what, a few millions of cedis, Willemina, or should I call you Will? You were the one orchestrating everything from the start, not Ekow. People like you are the reason I don’t even want to get married.” My last words definitely made her react cos she instantly replied in a very menacing tone, “You know nothing about me so stop with these psychological games.”

I went silent for a few minutes and I started talking again just to distract her enough for me to hatch an escape plan. We were getting closer to the main road that leads to the exit. “Your husband must have loved you a lot to trust you this much. What was he like?” She didn’t answer, but her steps gave her away so I continued talking some more. It really began to irritate her and she burst out in anger behind me.

“Do you know how frustrating it is living each day knowing that you are never gonna amount to nothing? Watching your friends disappear right before your eyes because you no longer fit in their class? Having a husband who doesn’t give a damn about money but has so many ideas that could get him rich? Do you?” quite frankly I was shocked at the reasons she gave for doing all of this. They were so vain but I wanted to keep her talking, hoping that someone on the line will hear her.

“So you killed your husband.”

“Do I look stupid to you? Of course not, I got that idiot of a man Ekow to do it for me. Why should I do anything that will trace any form of evidence back to me?”

“Then what am I doing here? Don’t you think I will be able to pin you to all that has happened?”

“That’s what you think; I’d be long gone before any evidence can be found against me, including you.”

That statement scared the bejeemeese outta me. “But you need me to complete the transactions.”

“Again, men are so egotistically stupid. Do you really think I need you? I could have done everything by myself. I just needed someone to get their hands dirty; you are just collateral in case of any mishaps.”

Trust me, I almost shat in my pants when I heard that, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel because immediately we got to the junction of the main road, there were police cars parked there, guns drawn and welcoming stares daring us to come any closer into the arms of arrest and interrogation.

With that Willemina quickly grabbed my neck and assumed the kidnapper role. Trust Ghana police to be bad shots. They couldn’t do anything, and it was apparent that she was gonna get away using her collateral.

She demanded they move out of the way else she’d kill me. Slowly the police started to move aside and we were about making our grand escape when one over ambitious policeman swung his gun upwards towards us. I could see Willemina not hesitating, I could sense the bullet loading into the chamber, I could see the end of my life. I heard a gunshot and I knew that was it, I was preparing myself to be engulfed in pain and light but nothing happened. I turned only to see Ekow pointing a gun at me from a distance with no Willemina standing behind me. She was on the ground and with that I collapsed.

I woke up in a hospital and the police told me that Ekow didn’t make it but they heard everything Willemina had said on my phone and Mary, the lady who tied me the bedpost, who was apparently a CID agent undercover had all the evidence to prove my innocence. Willemina didn’t make it either and they weren’t charging me with any crime. I was a free man.

The End.

It was great as a piece of creative writing wasn’t it Mike.
But yes we have ended the series. We (the author and myself as the editor) decided the core audience ofhe website were not that into it.

But if you Love it, we’ll be exploring having stories under one of our new sites (we’ll keep our readers posted) which we believe will give the authors more creative freedom to explore as many themes without being worried about restricting the content to suit a ‘core audience’.

Watch Out, this series may just come out again, free of any shackles it had here.
